How JupYeah improved their take-back program with reusable packaging
From a door-to-door service to a flexible online system, the JupYeah ecosystem is tackling clothing waste in Hong Kong with the help of reusable packaging.
JupYeah is a platform for reducing clothing waste and raising awareness about overconsumption. They organize corporate seminars, educational workshops, and other events to promote secondhand clothing and swapping and inspire people to build better relationships with clothes and the environment.

Challenge: Solving the wasted clothing crisis in Hong Kong
In Hong Kong, 370 tonnes of clothes are thrown away every day, equivalent to 1,500 pieces of T-shirts being thrown away every minute.
Here’s how JupYeah sees its role in the city of Hong Kong: they want to ensure that all secondhand clothes either go to someone else’s wardrobe again or are upcycled/mended into something precious. They’ve been organizing clothes swapping events all over the city since 2011.
They also organize take-back programs to collect, clean, and share the clothes people don’t wear anymore.
Members of the program book an appointment, and the JupYeah logistic teams pick up pieces of clothing at the user’s location. Clothes are packed in a reusable container to ensure a zero-waste process.

To make the tack-back program even more efficient, they wanted people to be able to send back clothes without having to organize an appointment at their homes. However, it was not imaginable to generate packaging waste for that service, and they wanted reusable shipping packaging to do that job.
Solution: Packaging that makes sense for a take-back program
We discussed with JupYeah in 2019 but could not offer our service then, as we have a policy to not provide e-commerce service to companies based too far from our return hubs in Estonia and Utah.
In 2021, we rolled out our new closed-loops models, making it possible for companies worldwide to enjoy reusable packaging in their loops.
For JupYeah, our service for Take-Back programs and other re-commerce models is a perfect fit.
Here’s how it works:
- They rent our bags for 6 months, and each bag costs them €0.90 per month
- They ordered a cleaning kit to maintain the bags in a good condition
- They use sealing stickers to ensure it’s an easy process for the user and the logistics
- RePack provides up to 10% top-ups per month to replace lost or damaged bags.
At the end of the renting period, JupYeah can renew the membership or return the bags to RePack.
We also take back damaged bags for repair, upcycling, or recycling.
Results: The added value of reusable packaging
“It feels wonderful to see the bags with my eyes; they are great. Your team is so amazing!” Ren Wan - Co-founder & CEO
Reusable packaging made the service even more popular and makes a real difference in Hong Kong’s growing clothing waste problem.
JupYeah users can order a reusable bag to be delivered to their home, where they can fill up the bag with up to 30 pieces of clothes.
Users drop the bags in the HK Post Office without having to pay for extra postage.
JupYeah assesses the condition of every single piece and then mends/upcycles the unwearable ones.
Then, the company will distribute clothes via various channels and donate them to social workers or social welfare groups. They ensure clothes will not end up in landfills and provide reports on how clothes are re-distributed and handled.
All of that while creating no extra waste thanks to reusable packaging.
